Toxic Perfectionism

George’s reading returned him again and again to Roy Hession’s ‘Calvary Road’ and the writings of A W Tozer. The importance of seeing oneself as we really are, and going to the foot of the Cross in repentance toward God and to others remained his greatest challenge. This is the most autobiographical of George’s writings. He was acutely aware of how our desire to be the best we can or the Lord can often lead to intolerance and judgementalism: ‘Toxic Perfectionism’. He gives many examples from his lifetime of service to illustrate the dangers of this attitude, and powerfully conveys that God never gives up on our sanctification – even if sometimes we do ourselves. May ‘Toxic Perfectionist’ inspire you to repentant sanctification following Jesus.
